Oto jedna z możliwości używania wyrażenia "would rather"

Kiedy orzeczenie wyrażenia "would rather" jest takie samo jak czasownika.

I'd rather +

1) present+ "goły" bezokolicznik -odnosi się do teraźniejszości/przyszłości.

2)perfect "goły" bezokolicznik -odnosi się do przeszłości.

I' d rather+ have chicken for lunch. I like it a lot. 

I'd rather + have told him earlier. He would not have been gloomy with me. 

Kiedy orzeczenie jest inne dla "would rather" i inne dla następującego go czasownika.

past simple (present/future)

past perfect (past)

I'd rather you (inne orzeczenie) left before the visitors arrive. They'll be here soon.

I'd rather they (inne orzeczenie) had left before breakfast. They would not have missed their bus.
